BIG BAND BASH 2003 Thomson Band III
While the Thomson Band III is only about 2 years old, its musicians are long-time members of the Thomson Jazz Club and accomplished amateur jazz musicians. A number of them had played with the other Thomson bands for a long time. Thus it is not surprising that they were able to execute the big band favourites with great finesse. |

The band is led by saxophonist Valerie. Though it is not `designated' as a swing band unlike its sister band, the Thomson Swing Band, nevertheless its leader was so warm towards the Lindy Hoppers in our midst that she even generously invited them to come on stage to "shake their thing". |

While it was really a pity that the Lindy Hoppers did not take up the priceless offer, nevertheless they were seen swinging enthusiastically all around the Garden to tunes like "Tuxedo Junction", "Jump Jive Wail", "Splanky" and "Alright, Ok, You Win". Since its inception, the band had performed in numerous public gigs such as Music @ Orchard Library, NAC Concert at Toa Payoh and Thomson's Fascinating Rhythms Concert. The band closed the set with a ballade featuring a young soloist, Fabian Lim. |

Having heard a great band, the next band though also new to me, was a pleasant surprise. Let's hear from the United World College Jazz Band. © Copyright May 2003 Anthony Chia Chwee Kiong |
